Miss South Africa

The most fashionable South African event of 2018!

The Miss South Africa Organization really pulled out all the stops this year at the biggest and most expensive show and competition they have ever hosted. Although this transformation should have been done years ago, all eyes are on South Africa this year after crowning Demi as the reigning Miss Universe.

The fashion on stage on Sunday night really blew my mind, as a fully-fledged pageant girl myself I have followed every detail of the years before, and this year was leaps and bounds ahead.

The Contestants:

Opening dress:

Odette Gomes designed the first look on stage, a shiny silver cocktail dress letting the girls show off their figures, pageant walk and personalities. The sexy glittery number opened the show with a bang.

Swimwear:

The swimwear was Miss SA 2012 Melinda Bam’s line “Bamshell”. With beautifully coloured caftans flowing behind each girl, the full swimwear pieces were classy and sexy. All the contestants should however walk in the exact same style as some were more flattering and striking than others.

Evening Gown:

The correlation between fashion and the competition was very obvious, when the two most beautiful gowns took home both titles. This can also be seen as unfair as the girls were dressed by different designers with someone else’s vision. Karishma, for example, a crowd favourite was dressed poorly and therefore hindered her score.

Three looks really took my breath away, our two winners Tamaryn and Thulisa,as well as Brioni.

Guests and Judges:

South African celebrities really went glam on the red carpet! Ex Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie and previous Miss World and judge Rolene Strauss had show stopping designs on by Roxanne Pengilly and winning designer of the night Galluzzi e Gini.

Shashi Naidoo in Bride and Co and Ryan Hignett in Euro Suit stole the carpet as best friends and best dressed dates with their bold white numbers.

The incredible Bonang hosted the show effortlessly and stylishly, changing her outfit every commercial break. My favourite was however her first look, this bold red gown and stunning headpiece which opened the show perfectly.
